We started by transferring a plumb line from the west wall (right) onto the top log on the south wall (left) and cutting off the excess. When we lift the next log, the pass end will fit tight against this cut which is the butt end of the south log. Since we plumbed the cut, our west log will already be plumb when we set it.

Back on the ground, Matt trims off some remaining knots.
